On Sunday last November 11 Ballinasloe GAA's superb season continued as the Under 21 hurling team won the county championship, when they defeated Spiddal by 1-9 to 1-5, in a hard fought encounter in Athenry. The team performed heroically, fighting back from a deficit of 1-3 to 0-1 after 20 minutes, and putting in a sparkling performance in the second half, to edge out Spiddal in a thriller.

It was a particularly notable achievement, given that nine of the winning panel are still minors, and credit is due to team Managers Brendan Hayes and John Mitchell. The panel on the day was: Aidan Ward, Alan Burke, Keelan Headd, Robert Burke, Paul Whelehan, Shane Kelly (Capt), Alan Caulfield, Keith Kelly, Cormac Casey, Noel Dillon, Colm Riddell, Ralf Carty, Gearoid Coleman, Gavin Hynes, Barry Croffy, Shane Gavin, Michael Brassil, Nigel Riddell, Kieran Hardiman, Michael Ward and Darragh Coen.
