Ballinasloe Train Station Print

Ballinasloe Train Station is a small rural station on the mainline between Athlone and Galway. Ballinasloe is a manned station with a staff of 3 hault keepers. Approximately 140 passengers pass through the small station on a daily basis. The station celebrated 150 years of service in 2004. The station road itself adds status and character to the town of Ballinasloe with its wonderful Stone work and buildings.

The station is becoming an important transport point in an increasing amount of passengers commuting to work in mainly Athlone and Galway. On a daily basis 16 trains stop in Ballinasloe servicing stations like Galway, Athenry, Athlone, Tullamore and Dublin Heuston.

The station boasts facilities such as car parking, waiting area and if fully wheelchair accessible platforms and entrances.

In 2006 the train station came first in Ballinasloe Tidy Towns competition. In 2004 the station featured in the Iarnord Eireann prestigious national awards and was awarded Most Improved Station.

In 2007 work is expected to start on renewing the existing platforms and building a new platform bellow the old store which will incorporate a wheelchair accessible lift and footbridge.
