Background

Ballinasloe.com was first registered in 1998 and was held in private ownership until 2003 when a transfer of ownership to the Ballinasloe Area Community Development (BACD) was negotiated.

ballinasloechamberofcommerc.jpg At the end of 2005, the Ballinasloe Chamber of Commerce took the initiative of redeveloping the website with a view to creating an online community resource, to increase its effectiveness at encouraging tourism and to show Ballinasloe in the positive light it deserves.

A Content Management System , which simplifies the process of adding news and content to the website, was implemented. This removed the technical barriers to adding new content to the website and allowed for a database of information on Ballinasloe to be created. Other features added as part of the redevelopment include a photo gallery system, a discussion forum and a web cam with a live video feed of Main Street, Ballinasloe.

Website Team

The Ballinasloe Chamber of Commerce has teamed up with the Ballinasloe Training Forfas_logo.gif Employment F?S Project to keep the website running long term. An administrator was appointed as part of the F?S Project. The primary role of the administrator is to organize the website content and news and add it to the website on a regular basis. The administrator is also involved in many other aspects of administrating the website.

The website administrator's contact details can be found here .

If you would like to become a content provider please contact us via the Contact Us page or email us on This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it . Contributions can range from articles (current, historical or anecdotal) to news to photos.

In general, if you have a specific question you would like to ask the best place to do this is in the Ballinasloe Discussion Forum, as there are many people who visit these forums on a regular basis.

Our Aim

The aim of the Ballinasloe.com website is to provide a comprehensive portal for Ballinasloe and the surrounding area incorporating an online community resource with information on many aspects of Ballinasloe Community life (including a discussion forum for discussing Ballinasloe related topics and a photo gallery with historical and current images), information promoting business and industry in the town and information for potential tourists and visitors of Ballinasloe.

Future Development

Many features and much content have been added to the Ballinasloe.com Website as part of the Ballinasloe Chamber of Commerce redevelopment and we will continue to expand on these features and content in the future. We will continue to expand our Business and Community Directories until we have included every business and organization in the Ballinasloe area.

If you have any ideas for new features or content that you think should be included in the website then please let us know via the Contact Us page, through our "feedback, comments and suggestions" section on the Ballinasloe Forum or via email on This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it .

For the Technical Minded

This site uses the Joomla Content Management System, the Coppermine Photo Gallery system and phpBB Internet Forum package - all of which run on a combination of PHP and MySQL . Each of these web applications allow for multiple contributors to the website using authentication systems and without the need for any specialized software to be installed on contributor's computer - all a contributor needs is a computer with an internet connection.
