Ballinasloe Town's under 18's were "pitched" against a strong and robust Glenhesh Rovers, who travelled from the Newport side of Caslebar for this hotly contested "shield". The first half, was a good contest with both teams working hard to gain the upper hand. Then on form Emmet Kelly drove forward and put the town lads one to the good 1-0. The Glenhesh lads in reply mounted their own response on put the ball in their hosts net 1-1, and so it remained until the break. On resumption of business it was the town that gained the upper hand and in the 25th minute Niell Hynes gave a lovely shot that went goal bound 2-1. The lads from the County Mayo threw everything (and the kitchen sink) at the town lads, but to no avail the score on the day 2-1. It was remarked that this was a truly entertaining game of football. Ballinasloe Town A.F.C. 2-1 Glenhesh Rovers A.F.C. |
