Ballinasloe Senior XV recorded an 11 points to 9 victory over the students of NUIG at Moher on Sunday last in the fifth round of the Connacht Junior League. This was their third victory on the front after earlier setbacks their league aspirations are back on track. Though short a few regulars due to injuries,  the home side started the brighter and with a try from Marvin Lee and a later penalty from Cathal Brophy , Ballinasloe lead by 8 pts to 6 at the interval.

The second  half was a closely fought affair with the stronger home side constantly under threat from the lively student's back line. The visitors went ahead with a well struck penalty by their outhalf, fifteen minutes into the half but Ballinasloe's response was rapid and Cathal Brophy's penalty from 30 metres restored the lead. The locals were fortunate that two late penalties for the students failed to hit the target but on the overall balance of play Ballinasloe deserved their narrow victory.
