Rosway Walkers wish Ian McKeever every success on the launch of his new book Print
Friday, 23 November 2007

On Tuesday 27th November 2007 will officially launch his new book ‘Give Me Shelter' in the Mansion House, Dublin. The well known radio voice and former AA Road watch presenter Ian McKeever chronicles his incredible journey during his recent and outstanding world record achievement (finishing June 29th) for climbing the seven summits of the seven continents in a new record time of 155 days. All of this was achieved by a man who had never been to altitude, rock climbed, stepped on ice or even worn crampons before accepting this challenge....

Despite having to contend with snow blindness on the descent of Mount Everest, being robbed in Moscow and suffering frostbite on Mount Elberusa, Ian nevertheless demonstrated tremendous resilience and determination in knocking an incredible 32 days off the existing record of Daniel Griffiths, which had stood previously at 187 days. One of his many achievements on route was the completion of Everest in a staggering 26 days, a whole month quicker than the average Everest expedition.

Taking time out from his busy schedule Ian recently met up with members of the Rosway Walkers club. Ian spoke about his personal experiences on this record-breaking mission and how he coped when faced with the most grueling of challenges. It is inspirational to hear this from a man who had no previous experience in climbing on such a scale and highlights the endless possibilities that can be pursued if the desire is there to do so. Although Mount Everest is not on the agenda for the club this year, it was enlightening to hear about it from someone who has been there and we hope that Ian may be able join us on one of our climbs in the future.

Ian's book ‘Give Me Shelter' detailing his incredible journey is out in the bookshops the week of the 25th of November.
