Hey there folks, my name is Lorraine O' Brien.  I used to live in Hymany Park, I moved over to England with my family almost seven years ago and me, my mum (Pauline Banahan), me brother and sister all used to live in Hymany.  I used to work for George Coyle there on Society and between meself and me mam, we have many friends in B'sloe. Me sister used to go to Creagh national school and me bruv went to Garbally.  Mam used to work for the school there at the end of Society Street.  Also our dad is currently in Millrace Nursing Home. I don't know if anyone on here remembers us at all?
However, since moving to England me mam has discovered she has MS and various health problems.  She wants to move back home.  So far she has submitted a housing application form to the council there with various recommendations supporting her application.  Is there anything else we should be doing?  Mam seems to be getting slowly worse and I just want her home where she belongs.  Any support or advice/info will be greatly appreciated.  Thank you - Lorraine Smiley

Be very careful Lorraine, a friend of mine in England is in the final stages of MS and the help and attention he is receiving is top class and free. You might check with the HSE in Ireland to find out what services are available to your mum here first.

I agree with Whack here to a degree.
The care available on the NHS may be a lot better than whats available here in Ireland, although in Britain, that often depends on where you live.

Lorraine,
If your Mum has only been in Britain for 7 years, her origianal GP here in Ballinasloe will still have access to her medical records. It might be an idea to have your Mum's doctor over there get in contact with her old doctor over here. Between them, they are in the best positition to advise her.

The most important points here are your mother's wishes.
As you say "she is slowly getting worse" and "wants to move back home".

Moving house is always stressful, and moving from one country to another with an illness can only be more difficult.

I will post a few websites below which may be some help.

Let me know if there is anything more I can do to assist you and your Mum.
In the meantime, keep up the good work Smiley
