Would anyone have a photograph of Burgoyne's Hairdresser Salon while it was still in operation? While we were over in 2008 we saw the building which I think has since become a Charity Shop. And how long did the family run their business there? Hoping some one can help me out . Thanks !!! Finbarr

Finnbarr Burgoyne's were in B'sloe until at least the mid 70's . There is a Burgoyne's Barber Shop in Goff Street, and the owner is a relative and may be able to answer your query. Elphin

Thank you for writing Elphin--I really appreciate your reply!!! Was the Burgoyne's Hairdressers on Society St. there in Ballinasloe? The reason for my query is that we American Burgoyne's are having a Family Reunion over the Thanksgiving Day holidays and i thought it would be good to have some information and pictures from Ballinasloe. Again, Thank You for your help!!!! Finbarr

Sorry Finnbarr I should have told you that the Goff Street I mentioned is in Roscommon Town, Co. Roscommon. There was also a tailor there who I believe was probably a brother of Billy's father.

Finnbarr There is a Louis Burgoyne in the Athlone - short distance form B'sloe- His telephone number is in the directory and you will have no difficulty contacting him and I think you will find he was brought up on Society Street, so should be able to help you out.

I'm glad you cleared that one up elphin; I googled the name and it brought me to Oz and the USA but no mention of Roscommon!

As far as I know, Eileen Kelly still lives in Society Street, close to where Burgoyne's Hairdresser Salon was. She will be able to help you I'm sure. My mum, Peggy Burke was Eileen's cousin and was a hairdresser in that business until she and her family moved to Liverpool in 1939. My mum died in 1971. She and my dad, John Coyne of Brackenagh, used to tell us all about Ballinasloe. Before my own family came over to Australia in 1995 I finally got to visit Ballinasloe and met Eileen Kelly and Dolly Coyne (my dad's sister-in-law). I wish I could have spent more time there, but will definitely go back when we next return to the UK. Sheila Owen with Welsh born husband Arthur and children Liam, Kieran and Siobhan. Burgoynes barber shop, previously Burke's.Michael Burgoyne snr married one of the Burke ladies who was at that time a music teacher.Burkes had their barber shop in the square.Michael Burgoyne snr was not a barber, for as long as I knew him (and that would be when I went to serve my time there back in 1948)he was in the hackney business,to the best of my knowledge he came from Rosscommon.Mrs Kelly(ne Burgoyne would have all the information you require, she is still in good form in her 80's a bit older than myself.
