The Ashtown Mausoleum on the Woodlawn House Demesne

The mausoleum of the Trench Family.It is also shown on OS maps as Trench's Monument. It was built in the late 1700s by Frederick Trench of Woodlawn, whose oldest son became the 1st Lord Ashtown. The mausoleum is the biggest one in Ireland in area. There are 18 people buried there. It was restored in 2001 by the present & 7th Lord Ashtown with the help of grants from the Heritage Council and Galway County Council. Photo taken in 2005
